This home had well proportioned rooms and good flow but needed updating. While there was natural light from the skylights and clerestory windows, the existing old style track lighting and 80”s “can” lights did not effectively light the living room. Bathroom cabinetry and fixtures also needed to be updated and in the guest bathroom the tub enclosure was replaced with a new shower enclosure.
We introduced a contemporary, industrial theme by adding the black metal railings, several concrete and stone tile finishes as well as black metal light fixtures.
We framed the window and entry door trims in black and were able to uncover some beautiful wood beams under the existing wrapped beams. The beams were in good shape and only required a light sand once the wrap was removed.
The wood burning fireplace in the living room lacked presence. By removing the bookshelves and armoire either side of the fireplace, installing new flat panelled white cabinetry (including a steel wrapped wood storage cupboard) and then tiling the fireplace in a organically textured large format tile, we made the fireplace a real feature and also gave the clients more space to display their art pieces.
